WASHINGTON: American singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson s estranged husband Brandon Blackstock has hit back at the star in their ongoing legal battle.
According to Fox News, last year, the 38-year-old songstress claimed Blackstock and his company had defrauded her out of a large sum of cash by charging her excessive fees.
Now, amid their ongoing divorce and legal battle, the 44-year-old talent manager has denied such claims, according to court documents obtained by multiple outlets.
Kelly Clarksonâs estranged husband,
Brandon Blackstock, is refuting the pop starâs allegations that he defrauded her out of millions of dollars over the last 13 years via âillegal services.â
Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage, citing âirreconcilable differences.â And she followed that up by filing a fraud claim against her ex in October with the California Labor Commission. In response, Brandon filed legal documents of his own with the California Labor Commission the following month, which were recently obtained by
.
In the paperwork, Brandon denies all of Clarksonâs claims, asserting that sheâs entitled to none of the money he, his father,
Brandon Blackstock, isn’t letting up.
In new legal documents, which were obtained by ET on Tuesday (January 26), Blackstock responded to the talk show host s previous legal docs, where she claimed his talent agency, Starstruck Management Group, defrauded her of millions of dollars. The agency, which is run by Brandon s father,
Narvel Blackstock, denied the allegations in which Clarkson claimed they violating California Labor Code and charged exorbitant commission fees. The agency argued that they are not subject to regulation under the Talent Agencies Act because they did not perform their duties in California. Additionally, they deny that Clarkson is entitled to any relief whatsoever.
Kelly Clarkson‘s legal team is issuing a response after her ex-husband
Brandon Blackstock denied defrauding her out of millions of dollars over the course of her career.
The legal drama between the two began in September 2020, when Starstruck Management Group claimed
Kelly owed them over $1.4 million in unpaid commissions. The company is run by
Brandon’s father,
Narvel Blackstock.
Kellyresponded by filing her own petition, which accused Starstruck Management of violating California Labor Code and overcharging for their commission fees.
Now
Kelly included in her filing because they did not perform their duties in California.
Kelly’s attorney told ET in a statement on Tuesday, “We stand by our allegations that Starstruck violated the Talent Agencies Act, despite their boilerplate denials, and we look forward to trying the case before the Labor Commissioner in August.”
Talitha Watkins wasn’t looking to leave one of Hollywood’s biggest talent agencies, Creative Artists Agency her home for the last four years.
But when Issa Rae, the star and cocreator of HBO series “Insecure,” approached Watkins about leading a talent management firm focused on supporting women and people of color, it was an opportunity she couldn’t refuse.
“George Floyd, Amy Cooper and COVID all put a lot of things in question for me,” Watkins said. “There’s that infamous saying, ‘If not now, when?’”
It’s a choice more talent agents are making. As Hollywood grappled with the delay in productions, talent agencies also suffered when their clients were not getting paid. That resulted in significant cutbacks, including layoffs and salary reductions, at major agencies including CAA and WME.
