They say the scammers are posing as Sheriffs Office personnel to get money from victims. The scammers tell the person there is a warrant for his or her arrest. But it will go away if they pay a reduced payment of the fine. The Washoe County Sheriffs Office warns that while they will sometimes make calls to inform someone about a warrant. They will never ask for payment over the phone. Nor will they negotiate for payment in lieu of arrest.
