Singer Sylvia La Torre, known by many as "Queen of Kundiman" and "First Lady of Philippine Television," passed away at the ripe age of 89, leaving behind a legacy in music and entertainment that spanned decades.

Sylvia La Torre, dubbed the Queen of Kundiman, passed away on Dec. 1. She was 89.
This was confirmed by her granddaughter, actress Anna Marie Perez de Tagle in an Instagram post on Dec. 2.

The label was founded by Don Manoling Villar in 1950 as a sister company to his Mabuhay Recording Company and it became a major player in the local music business. The label was also responsible for major developments that changed Philippine pop music forever. Villar signed up two young groups, The New Minstrels and the Hotdog.
