全球地下植被储存人类10年碳排放
根据一份新的全球地图，世界上近1/4的森林、灌木和草原生物量都储存在地下。这种之前未被研究的生物所含碳总量相当于人类10年的二氧化碳排放量，意味着它可以在应对气候变化中发挥重要作用。相关研究近日发表于《自然 生态学与进化》。
虽然研究人员可以从野外调查和卫星观测中知道地表上植物中的生物量和碳储存量，但对地表以下的生物量和碳储存量的了解只停留在非常局限的水平上，而非区域或全球水平。
“这是一个相当大的数字。”Zohner说，这一数字与此前的研究一致，后者估计地下生物量的范围为20%~30%。
这些发现使研究人员能够更好地掌握地球碳汇的数量和位置，也能更好地预测随着气候变化加速，碳将如何被固定或释放。Zohner说，“这打开了地下世界的大门。”
