GEORGE TOWN: A crewman of a fishing boat is missing after he fell into the sea when his boat hit a buoy near Swettenham Pier here on Tuesday (Dec 15) afternoon.
Penang Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency director Capt Abd Razak Mohamed said the missing man is 32-year-old Khairul Azhar Mohamad, who was last seen wearing a blue shirt and black pants.
He added that Khairul Azhar was not wearing any safety jacket during the incident and added that the other five fishermen on the boat were rescued by other fishermen in the area after the 2.20pm incident. The Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Langkawi was activated when the report was received by the Penang Maritime Operation Center on Tuesday, ” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 16).

GEORGE TOWN: A 32-year-old man is feared to have drowned after falling off a boat near Swettenham Pier in George Town on Tuesday (Dec 15).
Penang Fire and Rescue Department (fire operation and safety) officer Nafis Ariff Abdullah said the search-and-rescue operation that was carried out on Tuesday continued at 8am on Wednesday using the Surface Searching method.
“The operation involved five boats.
“The search area is divided into several search areas concentrated around the location of the victim is feared to fall and in the area around the beach with a radius of up to 2km.
