The Cape Coral Museum of History showcases how the city was formed, the construction of canals and much more. Appropriately, its lecture series will present area native author Jason Vuic, who will discuss and sign his new book “The Swamp Peddlers: How Lot Sellers, Land Scammers and Retirees Built Modern Florida and Transformed the American Dream” on early land development on up to present day. The Aug. 3 lecture is open to museum members and the public.
The event at the Coral Ridge Funeral Home & Cemetery to afford greater socially distanced seating will foster an unvarnished, dramatic account of real estate development in Florida. The book details the heady, pre-regulation days of Jack and Leonard Rosen in the Cape, Golden Gate and Golden Gate Estates; the Mackle brothers (Port Charlotte, Port St. Lucie, Deltona and Marco Island); and the genesis of Lehigh Acres, River Ranch, Palm Coast, Spring Hill and other communities, and much more recently, Babcock Ranch.
