Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka sought to set the record straight on his decision to de-gazette Isaac Mwaura as Nominated Senator.
Dr Lusaka who last week came under fire from a section of senators who faulted his move despite a court order, refraining him from implementing the decision of the Jubilee Party to revoke Mwaura s nomination, yesterday maintained that he acted within the law in declaring a vacancy upon the expulsion of the Nominated Senator.
He told members that there was no court order barring him from declaring the vacancy.

The Senate select committee hearing impeachment proceedings against Wajir Governor Abdi Mohamud declined to summon family members after Members of the County Assembly accused them of graft.
Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni-led team had been told by the MCAs through lawyer Ahmednasir Mohamed that the wife and children had some serious explaining to do about skewed payments made by the county government, which the county assembly believes were kickbacks running into millions of shillings.

Wajir County Assembly has, in a memorandum, told the Senate team probing the impeachment of Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud how his “supreme” wife took over the running of the county.
Members of the County Assembly said that top senior government officials in the devolved unit were fired at the whims of Mrs Kheria Omar.
The assembly linked the governor’s spouse to a constant reshuffling of Chief Officers in the Finance department six times within two years, in what it claimed was aimed at destabilising the docket to allow the siphoning of public funds through dubious contracts.

A sitting president and other elected leaders don’t have to resign if they wish to contest for a position in a general election.
In a verdict which now settles the debate on whether elected leaders should vacate office in readiness for polls, High Court Judge Anthony Mrima has ruled that the law does not require the president, governors, MPs and MCAs to be out of the office until the second Tuesday of August every fifth year.
