Washington State legislators react to Capitol violence

January 7, 2021 7:45 am Correction: the previous version of this story said that Senator Maria Cantwell supported invoking the 25th amendment to remove President Trump from office. Senator Cantwell did not issue any statement to that effect. WASHINGTON, D.C.  Washington State legislators are reacting to yesterday’s violence at the nation’s capitol. 2nd District Democratic US Representative Rick Larsen yesterday laid blame for it at President Trump’s feet, saying there was a peaceful demonstration and rally and then the President encouraged people to march on the Capitol and “we got what we got.” He says he and his staff were safe in the nearby congressional office building during the siege of the capitol.

DeVos, one of Trump s longest-serving Cabinet members, submitted her resignation in a letter to the president obtained by USA TODAY. She criticized Trump for using rhetoric that encouraged the violence that erupted and left four people dead. We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration s many accomplishments on behalf of the American people. Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protesters overruning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people s business, she wrote.
