Really a major commitment. The first step is deciding what your silver award project will be. It should be something that fulfills a need in your community and is important to you. They could be working in a Senior Citizen center and doing something creative for the Senior Citizens. It could be creating a Literacy Program for kids in elementary school, helping kids with math. Girl scouts can work on their project individually or two or three can work together. Leadership is important. Scouts going for silver need to put together a project team. This could consist of friends, family, and even members of the community. Most projects will need some funding. Raising that money is each scouts responsibility. So today were doing a bake sale to raise money to provide families of nonverbal special Needs Children with identification bracelets in case they get separated from their guardians or aides. And if you start during your 11th grade year, its definitely hectic. Probably like when you first get to high school. Well i think once you Start High School you should start preparing for college because you have your grades will count and the colleges will look at your grades from ninth grade all the way to senior year. And thats important in places where people dont have any electricity. So you boil a pot of soup. I made mine this morning on a gas stove, but in the developing world, you do that over a campfire, really. Thats how people cook. And then once its to a boil, you tuck it right in this bag, very tight, and then you pull the string, and then you leave it for several hours. And just like a crock pot, the soup will cook. So were gonna see if it worked. First, i just loosen up this, and then i take this top off. And then you see a pot of soup. And its still really, really hot. Im gonna put this down. It saves a lot of fuel. And also, when youre not cooking over a fire, the food doesnt burn, and that makes it much easier to clean up afterwards. cause as you can imagine, if you dont have running water, its really a pain to clean your dishes. So heres what the soup looks like. And i can tell you that it smells really great, and it is steaming, even though its been in here for about five hours, by

That organization is operation smile, and operation smile is an International Childrens medical charity that repairs cleft lips and cleft palates in developing nations. So a cleft lip or a cleft palate is simply a unilateral or a bilateral gap in their mouth, that causes them to have malnutrition, to be shunned by their community, and sometimes not even be able to go to school, so its really important that operation smile provides them access to proper medical care so that they can live a normal life. And skyler, how did you get involved with operation smile
