Students across Richmond have been feeling the weight of heavy times from teenagers dying from gun violence to a school that burned down. As children on all ends of the city process traumatic events, some parents and school leaders are calling for more mental health support.
The Richmond Fire Department initially told CBS 6 during its first response to Fox that the fire alarm panel, which was in trouble condition, signaled zone 32. Fire officials said they didn't know what zone 32 meant at the time because firefighters couldn't get in touch with RPS personnel.
The students of William Fox Elementary School have found a temporary home at First Baptist Church in Richmond after a fire burned down their school building last month.
In the past two weeks, the CBS 6 Problem Solvers have asked RPS about how many other schools did not have fire alarm panels with the correct phone number. On Sunday, Abubaker confirmed panels at all but ten facilities have been updated.
“It has been a truly inspiring reaction," Ty Toepke said. “When you think about the average gift with those numbers, it gives you a sense of really just how broad and universal the response has been.”
