Reporter san jose activated their Emergency Operations center here tonight and just a few minutes ago i got some good news. They said they are allowing evacuees back into their homes at this hour if they are escorted by police. This was a really bad fire. The thick smoke was visible throughout the south bay as this fire started near these homes in the sunset hills neighborhood around 4 30. The flames tore through houses and roared up the steep slope behind them. Fire crews dropped water while the trucks raced up the hill. New at 11 00, a major milestone for San Franciscos billion dollar central subway project.
