A TOTAL of 1,309 new Covid-19 cases were recorded yesterday with Kuala Lumpur (KL) reporting the highest number of cases at 493, followed by Sabah (290) and Selangor (238).Health DG Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new figure brings the cumulative number of positive cases in the country to 64,485, of which 11,481 are active.“Of the total number of new cases, there was one import case from abroad, while 1,308 cases were from local transmissions,” he said in a statement yesterday.He said 1,333 patients recovered and were discharged yesterday, taking the total number of recovered cases to 52,647.
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 30): Malaysia today recorded 1,870 new Covid-19 cases with six more deaths, pushing the cumulative confirmed infections in the country to 110,485, and the coronavirus death toll here to 463.
Johor overtook Selangor as the biggest contributor of new infections today, with 607 cases, according to a statement from health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The spike in cases in the state came mostly from a newly identified prison cluster named Tembok Choh, which recorded 374 new cases. The cluster spans the Johor Bahru, Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Kulai, and Mersing districts.
These cases in Tembok Choh were among 402 cases reported from lockups, immigration detention depots and prisons in Selangor, Pahang, Johor and Perak, he said.
