The Town of Summerton in Clarendon County is rich in history - a history that led to the end of segregation in South Carolina schools and ultimately, the nation.

Senator Kevin Johnson and Representative Kim Johnson traveled to Summerton to present the Preservation Service Award to the Summerton Community Action Group.
“We applaud all of their hard work and dedication,” wrote Senator Johnson in a Facebook post. “I am proud that I was able to secure a six figure grant award from the State of South Carolina a couple of years ago to help them achieve their goals of preserving and highlighting the notable and unique history of Summerton and Clarendon County.”
The Summerton Community Action Group plans to use this money to build a park as well as establish nine historical markers throughout summerton.
