in tackiness because the biggest single chunk of the republican base loves donald trump. so, perhaps predictably, we got word today to pence is going to fight the subpoena, which is actually just a classic mike pence move that could backfire on him in the end. seems likely he will drag out the subpoena fight until finally, he is forced to give his testimony even later in the presidential election calendar, which will be more politically deadly for him. in the end though, it does not really matter whether pence fights the subpoena or whether he testifies in the special counsel investigation because, well, i hate to hazard prediction, but is sure looks like he has already lost the 2024 election. the reason is that the trump base hates mike pence. do you remember those people that were there in the capital, they chanted, hang mike pence, on january six, after trump tweeted during the riots that, quote, mike pence did not have the courage to do what should have been done?
learning about this when the first set of documents were discovered november the 2nd. can you square that circle? i mean, it s politic, right? we know that they re going to go after joe biden because he s from the opposite party. it s blatant and pretty clear. they are trying to make the case these are similar cases, that joe biden should have been had his house searched by the fbi and donald trump had his but without getting into the fact that the facts. without getting into the facts. let me stop you there. donald trump who is battling with the justice department, with the archives about turning over the documents later led to the fbi searching mar-a-lago, all those things did not apparently happen here. but it doesn t mean they re not going to push forward. we ll see what they figure out. already comer s committee sent a letter to the white house and national archives asking for records and documents and communications and it s unclear how does a white house respond? the
transactions, try to connect that to joe biden. that will still be a focus going ahead. now with this news, it s giving them a new area to push ahead which is why we expect a lot of effort going forward. the question will be how the white house responds to all these requests for records. does the white house cooperate with james comer s request to provide this information by january 24th, including communications between white house aides, the records themselves, a whole slew of documents, or do they fight the republicans in the house and does that lead to a subpoena fight, a loegal fight, things w saw during the trump administration. there s no clear answer at this point but that s undoubtedly how they plan to pursue it. there are democrats who have questions, including mark warner. he wants a briefing, a damage assessment about what these documents are and the impact it had on national security. in talking to a number of democrats, they want to know more information which is why the
