Taipei, April 27 (CNA) The Taipei District Court on Tuesday rejected a request by Taiwan s top envoy to Japan Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) for compensation of NT$1 million (US$35,832) from Taipei City Councilor Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強).
The demand for monetary compensation resulted from criticism of Hsieh s alleged dodging of responsibility for Taiwan s handling of stranded Taiwanese tourists in Japan in 2018 due to a typhoon that caused a Taiwanese diplomat stationed in Osaka to commit suicide.
