A new ABC podcast Stuff The British Stole is inviting listeners to “stand in the mess of history” and, go beyond the “polite” plaques in museums.
Award winning journalist Marc Fennell looks at the artefacts that were taken during the British Empire, that have ended up in museums all around the world, and tells the not-so-polite history behind those objects.
In each episode he picks an artefact and takes you on the wild and often tragic ride of how it got to where it is today and, what it tells us about the world we live in.
“The things that they hold in those doorways caused active hurt and suffering to people around the world and I think I would be more okay with those museums if they, at the very least, acknowledged it.
