A stairwell under construction collapsed Wednesday morning inside a city-owned parking garage at 55 First St. in East Cambridge, killing one worker and critically injuring another.
A 911 call came in around 8:23 a.m. for a partial structure collapse, according to Cambridge Fire Department Chief Gerry Mahoney.
Two men were removing metal railings on a fourth-floor stairway when the structure collapsed. One of the men later identified as 56-year-old Christopher Stuck of South Windsor, Connecticut was pinned between the fallen stairway and the second floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
