At a press conference held at City Hall Park to address the rising toll of gun violence in New York City on Tuesday morning, Iesha Sekou, the founder of the anti-violence group Street Corner Resources in Harlem, told the crowd she had to leave early to go to the hospital.
“When we got here, we got word that one of our young people was shot in the head last night, early this morning,” Sekou said, her voice breaking. “He’s non-responsive right now, so I know when I finish, we’re gonna leave, because I know we can talk to that young person and hopefully bring that spirit up and get life coming back and hopefully get a healed person who can tell his story.”
Police say Wolfe had been tortured and beaten to death.
His stepfather, 34-year-old Ryan Cato, is now charged with murder.
However, officials say the NYPD is also investigating if proper procedures were followed when officers were called to the complex for a domestic dispute the day before Wolfe was found dead.

I m torn up over this. I m trying to keep it together because this is going to be a long process and I have to bury my child, which no one should have to do.
Police say the man spotlighted in recently released video can be seen lifting a wallet from an unsuspecting victim.
Shea said they dialed the callback number related to the 911 call twice but got a voicemail message both times.
After they couldn t find an ongoing dispute or get in touch with the caller, they resumed their patrol.
However, sources say there is no indication the responding officers knocked on any apartments on the fourth floor there are eight apartments prompting the review into whether procedures were followed.
Resident Justine Halls wonders why no one called sooner. If this was going on for a long period of time somebody should have been spoke up, someone should have been came out, Justine Halls said. Someone should have been said something. Nobody said nothing till it was too late.
HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) Community members gathered to mourn the disturbing death of a 10-year-old boy in Harlem and to stand against all forms of violence.
Police say Ayden Wolfe s body was covered in bruises, and on Sunday night, police charged the boy s stepfather, Ryan Cato with murder.
Wolfe s death is causing an uproar in the community. Local activists are speaking out on the need for school counseling and opening youth centers to provide support for children who may be in dangerous situations at home.
Police got a call for an assault inside the family s fourth-floor apartment at the Saint Nicholas Houses on 260 West 131st St. on Saturday. When officers went inside, they found the 10-year-old on the living room floor - he was not alive. Police say he had extensive bruises, both old and new.
