NJ and NY Teachers Receive Tikvah's Inaugural Lincoln Fellowship

By Elizabeth Kratz | December 31, 2020 Educators at 17 New York and New Jersey yeshiva high schools and day schools were named as recipients of the Tikvah Fund’s Abraham Lincoln Teachers Fellowship. The inaugural class of 36 fellows will join an advanced seminar on American history and civilization designed for Jewish day school and yeshiva educators. The program, which will run from January to May 2021, will cover a wide range of themes including religion, freedom, self-government, equality and commerce across 400 years of history. The fellowship “is designed to gather the best and most dedicated teachers of American civilization from Jewish day schools and yeshivas for the purpose of creating a community of teachers and learners who will explore deeply, at the level of a graduate seminar, the enduring themes of American civilization,” said Tikvah’s online academy dean, Harry Ballan. “We do this in a spirit of patriotism and gratitude, with special attenti

Yeshiva University Celebrates 96th Annual Chanukah Dinner Online

By JLNJ Staff | December 10, 2020 (Courtesy of Yeshiva University) On Sunday, December 6, Yeshiva University was proud to celebrate its 96th Annual Chanukah Dinner. Reimagined this year as a virtual event, the dinner featured an interactive program allowing guests to choose their own event. The new format expanded the reach of the Chanukah Dinner with over 4,600 registered participants and created a platform to recognize YU’s supporters of our scholarship funds. In line with the opportunities that a virtual format presents, the dinner program was a centerpiece of this year’s strong fundraising efforts and will continue throughout the calendar year. YU supporters including registered Chanukah Dinner guests, President’s Society members, annual supporters, student leaders, faculty and staff will have exclusive access to view the virtual dinner, an interactive program allowing guests to choose their own event content through the end of 2020.
