it is a impeachment. i see zero chance of that happening here. it was the president doubling down this weekend, the one who said he went to the best schools, calling himself a stable genius. nikki haley made a much better argument on the sunday shows when she said, is he unstable? how about what he did in syria, with isis, north korea, tax reform. instead of the president being silent and saying, these are my policy wins, or look at neil gorsuch, he s defending his own mental health. it seems like a wrong move from a strategy perspective. what is the white house s game plan, ken? oh, sorry. the white house s game plan is to push back aggressively. it is a little puzzling. i think he s brought the debate on himself by going out there on twitter in a way that is not does not really well serve him. i mean, he makes the comparison to ronald reagan.
reporter: not from president trump, craig. i think he s made that clear by what he s talking about online, on twitter. a real reversal from the president s prior attitude back in 2016 and even earlier this year towards senator corker. burning bridges, that is nothing president trump has ever been afraid of. setting aside whether that s legislatively smart for him to do. whether from a strategy perspective that s something he would want to be doing. i will tell you that privately, there s not a lot of push back when you talk to white house officials acknowledging it s not great for tax reform. but the strategy so far has been, turn the fire on corker, instead. point to, for example, what he did on the iran deal when that was happening under president obama. tried to drive a wedge between the base, donald trump s base and senator corker and make this a political issue, essentially. the white house, according to public statements that top
i think this is a good approach. it doesn t bother me at all, doesn t make me feel insecure. i say this is something who s used to doing business and you a deal done. let s go get together, see what we can find some common points of interest, and agreement, and go through exactly what our plan is and see what we can concur. if there s things we disagree about then we can go over that and try to negotiate it. i think this is a smart approach. he hasn t been able to get his own party to do what he s asked them to do. he s trying gotten to the choice to reach across the table to get a few of the votes that he need needs. it s also boxing the democrats and from a strategy perspective because they can t say that he wasn t trying to be bipartisan, he wasn t trying to be reasonable or listen to their interests or their concerns. from their constituents, if you want to make america great again not just republican americans to reach across the aisle.
