intermediate steps here. clearly the president said no one, none of the subpoenas will be honored. in some sense, that is also a coverup as the congress tries to get information. so, perhaps she was referring to that, perhaps she was referring to the stormy daniels situation. i m not sure. i was not there and have not talked to her what she meant. neil: do you think the president has covered it up? well, in the context of not providing information and not allowing the congress to get the information from individuals that we have subpoenaed in that sense, yes, theres a coverup, in the sense that he is stonewalling. neil: but that s not the definition of a coverup, right? well, i think coverup is a word of art, not a legal definition in criminal law. and so, i think there is a difference. it s used in many, many different ways. the stormy daniels situation, if i m not mistaken, somebody s gone to jail already on that one. neil: you think there s plenty
a criminal plot. just to take a step back, i don t think it was any one single thing that cohen brought today that was a knock-out revelation. i think it was the enormity of the details that he added to all the investigations that we know had been going on. he added new contexts to the stormy daniels situation and putting trump more of the center that we knew. added more contexts in trump s role in what he knew about wikileaks. more meat on the bone of how he told and how he directed or in directly told cohen to lie to congress. we know that story a little bit better now. a little bit more about his role and finally something new which is potential fraudulent loan obtained from deutsche bank. that s a whole new box that s opened today. he gave a general sort of
for telling a witness to lie to the congress of the united states. i think this is different. again, i think we will do our job in terms of conducting oversight hearings. this is clearly the most serious threat this president has faced. are you calling on your chair to open an investigation, hearings on this now before perhaps the mueller report comes out? i think we have to wait for the reports to be confirmed before we can call on that. i can tell you if the reports are confirmed and the evidence presented that the president of the united states directed mr. cohen to lie to congress, i won t have to call on mr. nad ler to do it. congressman nadler has been clear. he s called things impeachable offenses. for instance, in the stormy daniels situation, he said that s an impeachable offense but said it doesn t mean i think we should go forward with impeachment. again, i ask you, suborning
political interest, i think he is trying to make sure his sort of 12 minutes of fame turn into 13 minutes as opposed to whether or not the white house really has to worry about whether this compares to the feds. the feds win on this one. abbabby, you cover the white house. i think this is significant but for a slightly different reason. the white house is always concerned in some ways about the mueller investigation, but the thing about this advocate case is it can surface some things that are more politically damaging to president trump than they might be for his legal prospects. so avenatti is trying to basically create a scenario in which he potentially deposes president trump and potentially unearths embarrassing information about the president. we know that he s been so nervous about this stormy daniels situation, in part because this pertains to his marriage, his personal life, and also it pertains to something that is really unsavory, an alleged extramarital affair. this may
