FIRST ALERT: Severe Storms Bring Strong Winds, Hail to Philly Region NBC10 First Alert Weather Team © Getty Images/RooM RF What to Know A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for much of Philadelphia, and its suburbs for Wednesday afternoon. A First Alert is in effect for our entire area from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday due to thunderstorms, gusty winds and a rapid temperature drop. Temps will drop from near 70 around lunchtime to the 50s by mid afternoon and all the way to near freezing by Thursday morning. Severe storms with the potential for wind gusts of 60 mph and hail the size of quarters are roaring through the Philadelphia region Wednesday afternoon ahead of temperatures plunging. The quick-moving storms even caused a brief rain delay for the afternoon Phillies game.
