Mike Musick wins runoff election to Lakeland City Commission Mike Musick. Mike Musick will be joining the Lakeland City Commission after defeating Shandale Terrell in a runoff. The city held a runoff Tuesday for a Special Election to fill the void on the Commission left by U.S. Rep. Scott Franklin when he was elected to Congress last November. The Republican represents Florida’s 15th Congressional District. Musick’s victory was narrow he garnered 50.69% of the vote, while Terrell mustered 49.31%. As far as number of votes, Musick surpassed Terrell by 146.  Since no candidate broke the 50% threshold in the original election on April 6, the two advanced to a runoff election. In the April election, Terrell earned 40% of the vote the most of all the candidates and Musick raked in 34%.

Mike Musick wins Southeast District seat on Lakeland commission

LAKELAND  Mike Musick edged Shandale Terrell on Tuesday night to win Lakeland s Southeast District seat in the runoff election. Musick received 50.7% of the ballots cast for the May 4 runoff. He beat Terrell by a slim margin of 146 votes out of the 10,646 ballots cast, according to the unofficial results posted by Polk County Supervisor of Elections.  Musick will be sworn into office at the upcoming May 17 City Commission meeting to serve the remaining seven months of former City Commissioner Scott Franklin s term. Franklin resigned last year upon launching his successful campaign for U.S. House District 15.  I think the city chose the right candidate, Musick told The Ledger. I will get to the hard work.  

Shandale Terrell, Mike Musick head to May 4 runoff for Lakeland seat

LAKELAND    Lakeland will hold three elections this year, as no candidate managed to capture the 50% majority of votes needed to win the Southeast District D seat on Tuesday night. Voters narrowed a wide field down to two options: Polk County educator Shandale Terrell, 46, or Michael Musick, 49, owner of Musick Roofing.  It was great to see that number of votes, I am very grateful and very humble, Terrell told The Ledger on Wednesday. I put in a lot of hard work meeting constituents where they are, and I would do the same work as city commissioner if I win the election.

Lake Alfred The town of Lake Alfred had two seats up for grabs on the ballot City Commission Seats 3 and 4. Three candidates were on the list for the two at-large seats, including Nancy Z. Daley. Daley took one of the seats with 42.93% of the vote. She has served on the Lake Alfred City Commission for 10 years including four terms as mayor and four terms as vice mayor. The other seat was taken by Mac Fuller, who will replace Charles Lake, who did not seek reelection. Fuller earned 35.54% of the vote. Joseph Hults Lake Wales Residents of Lake Wales had two City Commission seats on the ballot Tuesday, although only one featured an incumbent. 

Polk County elections results: Runoff in Lakeland; 2 incumbents lose

Commission seat results  Lakeland held a special election to fill the remainder of the term for the Southeast Lakeland seat vacated by Franklin, who was elected to represent District 15 in the U.S. House of Representatives in November.  None of the four candidates broke the 50% threshold needed to secure the seat, and the top two vote-getters, Musick and Terrell, will advance to a May 4 runoff to compete for the seat. Terrell received 39.74% of the vote and Musick 33.65%.  Candidate Steven Frankenberger took 20.94% of the vote, and Ken Post got 5.67%.  In Bartow, Clements was ousted in the election for at-large Seat 1, grabbing only 24.07% of the vote compared with 52.75% for the winner, Tanya Tucker. Sal Carter took 16.39% of the vote and Charlie Bittinger 6.8%.
