York County voters will cast ballots in a slew of races for seats in local boroughs, township supervisory boards as well as school boards in the upcoming May 18 primary.
Among the marquee races in the off-year contest are races for row offices, the mayor and city council races in the City of York and a legislative race to fill a vacancy left by the death of an incumbent.
“I’m happy with my results,” Smith said. “It was an interesting survey. I think they tried to capture more information.”
Smith noted that members filled out the survey after, instead of before, the bar association held its judicial forum. Candidates could provide information about their qualifications as well.
If people are looking for a surgeon, she said, they’re going to reach out to other surgeons and people in the medical field for an opinion.
“Lawyers have a vested interest in having a judge who’s qualified and competent and has the proper temperament and integrity,” Smith said. “Basically, all the categories that the bar poll covers.”
The York County Bar Association will hold a judicial forum on Tuesday with the three candidates who are running for judge ahead of the primary on May 18.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. and allow the candidates Joe Gothie, Suzanne Smith and Steve Stambaugh to answer a series of questions that a panel composed of community leaders and attorneys thought up. People can watch the forum live on Channel 18, if they have Comcast, or on the York Daily Record/Sunday News or Evening Sun s Facebook pages.
