ROCHESTER City councilors have asked police officials and the city’s Police Commission to revisit potential ways to address repeated disturbances in local neighborhoods, doing so after pushback that a new potential ordinance would impose fines on landlords for complaints about their tenants’ behavior.
Councilors and landlords have recently expressed concern about unintended consequences the proposed ordinance could have for landlords and the Lilac City’s housing market. Meanwhile, proponents of stricter enforcement, including one city councilor, say the issue must be addressed in some way.
“Let’s get the conversation going and see what we can do,” said Don Hamann, one of the city councilors who believes more discussion is needed even though he opposes the draft ordinance. “It never hurts to discuss.”
