Former environment minister Jairam Ramesh has criticised the government s approach to the Cheetah reintroduction programme, following the death of a male cheetah translocated from Africa to the Kuno National Park earlier this month. Eight cheetahs have died at the park since March. Ramesh claimed that if "science rather than vanity had been put at the forefront of the project", the cheetahs might not have died. He also accused the government of imposing a gag order on scientists and forest officers.
