Centra honoring its 7,500 caregivers with National Hospital Week celebration Theme is “Healthcare Heroes” to recognize the effort during the pandemic Published:  Tags:  LYNCHBURG, Va. – Centra Health is acknowledging its 7,500 caregivers by celebrating National Hospital Week. Their theme is “Healthcare Heroes” to recognize the effort every department is putting in to fight the pandemic. Centra’s footprint covers 8,000 square miles, with four hospital campuses. The weeklong celebration includes “Superhero Day,” a pancake breakfast, a parade and a cookout. “This is actually the first year that we celebrated [National] Hospital Week with this much emphasis at Centra because it took every single person that works for Centra to get us through the last year,” said Stephanie McBride, manager of Centra’s public relations and communications.

Graduating one semester apart, brothers walk together at commencement

Graduating one semester apart, brothers walk together at commencement When Jaylen Reinhart s graduation ceremony transitioned online last fall due to the pandemic, he participated, celebrated with his family, and moved on to working as a Project Engineer for a construction company in Ohio.  He refocused his excitement on his younger brother Tyler s upcoming graduation in the spring and looked forward to celebrating his brother s success. When UF announced a few months later that every graduate who missed their in-person commencement would have an opportunity for a make-up in-person recognition ceremony, Jaylen looked forward to returning to Florida to attend his own graduation ceremony as well as his brother’s. But the two ceremonies were scheduled a week apart, which was longer than he could take off work. He decided to ditch his own ceremony and attend his brother’s.

Students and alumni share worry about graduating amid COVID-19

Students and alumni share worry about graduating amid COVID-19 Without closure, alumni face ups and downs moving past their time at UF Photo by Shannon Ahern | The Independent Florida Alligator Rachel Everly s plans after graduation went from teaching English as a second language in Spain to teaching Spanish at a high school in Washington D.C. in the span of a month. Like Everly, 2020 UF alumni not only missed the chance to walk up the stage and celebrate the culmination of their studies, but some also had to unexpectedly replan or readjust their career plans. The COVID-19 pandemic brought on several challenges in seeking higher education and securing a place in the workforce.
