Colorado Springs District 11 has closed some schools for Thursday due to power outages caused by Wednesday s windstorm, District 11 officials announced Wednesday night.
For the second time in a little over a month, drugs were found on an elementary school student within District 205. Galesburg Police responded to Steele Elementary School on Thursday (12/9) after a nine-year-old female student approached a teacher and said she had something she wasn't supposed to have. The student had found a baggie of cannabis inside the pocket of the coat she was wearing. The student said she had worn her mother's coat to school that day. The contents of the baggie field-tested positive for 1.1 grams of cannabis by GPD. Attempts to contact the girl's mother were unsuccessful. A report was filed with the Department of Children and Family Services. Back on November 3rd, Galesburg Police responded to King Elementary School after a 10-year old female student found a baggie of cocaine in her coat pocket. DCFS was contacted during that incident as well.
