While the number of formally employed South Africans ticked upwards by nearly 400,000 in the third quarter, manufacturing and mining shed thousands of jobs, according to Statistics South Africa.
Mining was among the industries that led to job creation in the previous quarter but economic headwinds have seen some big mining houses battle to maintain jobs.
