Seven escape boat fire off O.B.

A good Samaritan vessel came to the aid of seven boaters Monday evening after they were forced to escape their burning boat in a dinghy.
A report of a burning vessel off Oak Bluffs was reported to the Coast Guard at about 5:30 pm Monday evening, according to Petty Officer Briana Carter. Station Woods Hole deployed a 45 foot motor lifeboat, but the fishing vessel Dog Days was able to come to the boater’s aid ahead of the Coast Guard and ahead of the Oak Bluffs and Hyannis fire departments, Carter said.

Fishing vessel sinks in Woods Hole

The fishing vessel Determination sank in Woods Hole off Penzance Point early Friday evening. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified the vessel was taking on water at 4:50 pm, according to Petty Officer Amanda Wyrick. Two 45 foot response boats from Station Woods Hole came to the vessel’s aid and safely recovered the crew, Wyrick said. The vessel sank by Buoy 11, Wyrick said. She could not confirm whether or not the vessel struck rocks. Mark Brown of Sea Tow US, Falmouth, responded to the scene and asked the crew what had happened.
