and then they came out and they said it appeared cardiac arrest. we don t know if he had a pre-existing undetected condition. we don t know a lot about what happened. you know, that will come in the coming days. but jim gray, one of the greatest sportscasters of all time was on with the hannity show last night and talked a little bit about how when you are a professional athlete at this level, doctors pretty much know everything going on with your body. here s jim last night. this may look like something cardiovascular that may not have had anything to do with the hit. again, none of us knows his medical history. none of us knows what transpired in this moment. and we re going to have to wait and find out just to see just exactly what it is that comes forward with that information. but, these athletes are in such, such fine shape and they are usually tested and retested and, you know, all of their vital signs and all of their, you
0 unfortunately, given the circumstances, jason obviously not used to coming on to talk about this like a lot of people out there. i mean, this was a really big game for people out there who are not nfl fans bills being goals monday night football. huge game to really excellent franchises. having very good season like a lot of people. i was sitting down watching this game coming right out of the rose bowl. it s a big day for college football and the nfl and, uh, you know, a really exciting start. and then this incident which happens and for those of us who have watched football, uh, for our whole lives are played, coached it. you see players get hurt, but this just what and felt different than what usually happens and so everybody watching it in real time, uh, knew that it was very serious and obviously it is. it is a heart wrenching moment for foreign of health and for everyone out there, and certainly for this young man and his family. yeah the speed and veracity of what happens in t
look at these numbers. tony romo, $180 million. troy aikman, $90 million. joe buck, $75 million. when he stops playing, tom brady, $375 million. you write in your book about sportscasters great sportscasters. you clearly admire them. if you were in charge of nbc sports or any sports today, would you be paying people that kind of money? you can read stories about guys getting paid huge salaries or women getting paid huge salaries during my years you won t find them. we didn t pay those kind of things. why not? because i thought that the material that we we had the best. we had the olympics. we had the nfl. at some point in time, we had the nba. we had things these people really wanted to do. that was huge traction.
that s exactly right. vin scully always said that he was just a school boy who wanted to be a sportscaster. well, he became a masterful storyteller, considered himself a conduit between the game and the fans and he did become one of the greatest sportscasters of all time. when you heard his voice, you knew it was time for dodger baseball. hi, everybody, and a very pleasant good evening to you wherever you may be. pull up a chair. reporter: scully started broadcasting dodger games in 1950 when the team was in brooklyn, moved with them to l.a. called their games all the way until 2016, 67 years, that s the longest run of any broadcaster with any one team, he called 25 world series. his first came at just 25 years old. dodgers manager dave roberts talked about the icon after yesterday s game. he was a friend. he was a friend and he inspired me to be better and, you know, there s not a better storyteller
