Let’s imagine for a few moments that we are Bill Watterson’s creation, Calvin, in his fantasy hero role as Spaceman Spiff (“Free to roam the heavens in man’s noble quest to investigate the weirdness of the universe!”). Cruising through space beyond the orbit of the moon, we notice that the planet Earth is triggering the alarm of our heat-scanning sensor. Double-checking reveals that, sure enough, that third planet from the sun is experiencing an anomalous temperature increase.
