It’s never too late for one to accept Jesus Christ as personal Savior. This is a living testimony coming from North Zambia Union Conference, one of the unions in the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Divis.

General Conference Treasurer Juan Prestol-Puesán announced his retirement plans to the Executive Committee at the (Zoomed) Spring Meeting April 13. He will step down at the end of July 2021. Added to the recent announcement by General Conference Secretary G. T. Ng of his retirement, this further change in the three top officers of the church, will keep the Nominating Committee very busy on Wednesday morning when its deliberations are set to begin at 5 a.m. (Eastern time).
This personnel news topped the 2020 financial report of a break-even year for the General Conference with tithe holding steady, while offerings were down approximately 20%. Expenses were cut by the elimination of travel, some personnel and program cuts, allowing the General Conference to end the unpredictable year of 2020 in the black, delegates were told.

Global Youth Day (GYD), a special Seventh-day Adventist annual day dedicated to outreach and service included record-breaking baptisms in Zambia. GYD, celebrated in March every year, drives hundreds of thousands of Adventist young people around the world to show Christ’s love in their communities. The events of the special day in Zambia moved thousands to give their hearts to Jesus, a regional church leader reported.
GYD 2021, held on March 20, overlapped with a special Youth Week of Prayer (YWOP) and Homecoming Sabbath (HCS), well-known initiatives across the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) church region.

“We are sorry, Mr. Sayi, but we can’t allow you to board your flight tonight,” said the immigration officer at Manila International Airport. Those were tough words to swallow. I was silent, not sure what to do.
Lord, you know I can’t miss my flight, I’m going for your service. It was you who called me for this mission!
Invitation, But No Documents
About a month before, in a program of the African Theological Forum at the Adventist International Institute for Advanced Studies (AIIAS), I had presented an academic paper with my good dentist friend Mthandazo Mlilo. After our presentation, which had a global audience of diverse Adventist Church leaders, I had chatted with Hopeson Bonya, vice president of the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division. Dr. Bonya said he was grateful for the presentation and that he believed Adventism in Southern Africa would benefit from the insights presented from our academic paper.
Spectrum’s Top Stories of 2020

Spectrum is taking a look back at our top stories. This year, the
Spectrum website received over 2.5 million pageviews from over 760,000 unique visitors.
Unsurprisingly, many of our most-read stories this year centered around the COVID-19 pandemic: the postponement of GC Session, the financial crisis caused by churches closing their physical doors, the heated discussion on whether church entities should take advantage of government relief funds, a tribute to Adventists who died from COVID, and a look at Ellen G. White’s response to the pandemic of her day.
But as we look back at 2020, coronavirus wasn’t the only topic of discussion. Articles on racism, LGBT+ issues, how the church treats people, and what the future of Adventism might look like were all circulated and talked about widely.
