THE Coastguard helicopter was drafted in during a dramatic rescue operation to help a casualty stuck in mud with water up to their waist. Following multiple 999 calls today, Southend Coastguard led the mission in the face of a fast, advancing tide off Two Tree Island in Leigh. There was also a pressing need to pluck the casualty to safety to stop the onset of hypothermia. A passing paddle boarder was able to help the casualty and take them to the Two tree slipway to meet the lifeboat and the helicopter which landed on the slipway so that a medic could treat the casualty for the onset of hypothermia.
