Tyson takes on Mobile Food Pantry, funds Food Bank of Iowa

Gus Henrici, assistant chaplain at the Tyson Fresh Meats in Perry, coordinates the mobile food pantries at the hospital and also sits on the Perry Food Pantry Board of Directors. Tyson Foods Inc. has granted $54,250 to the Food Bank of Iowa in order to support hunger relief in the Perry area, the company announced Thursday. The Tyson Fresh Meats plant in Perry will also begin coordinating the mobile food pantry events every other month at the Dallas County Hospital. “We’re very grateful for Tyson’s continued support and help in providing food to our local Perry community,” said Michelle Book, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Iowa. “This donation will help our organization work toward our vision of a hunger-free Iowa.”

(KFVS) - The Pemiscot County Acceleration Team will host a job and career exploration fair in Hayti on Saturday, May 15. The event, combining a job fair for adults and career exploration for students, will be held at the Faith Temple Complex-Church of God in Christ. The public is invited to attend. Employers will be on hand to connect with potential employees. Face-to-face interviews are likely. In addition to the fair, there will be activities for children, door prizes and free food for attendees.

Pershing VA Medical Center will expand its mobile food program for veterans thanks to a grant awarded to them from the Southeast Missouri Food Bank. The VA and food bank partnered to hold monthly mobile food distributions at the medical center for the past 18 months. The program was first designed to serve about 50 veterans each month. It will be expanded to serve 75 veterans each month.

Food Stamp Applicants Struggle To Get Through Missouri Call Center Line

Southeast Missouri Food Bank The Southeast Missouri Food Bank has seen the number of people coming to food pantries and mobile food distribution sites increase as much as three times since the pandemic began. Counties in southeast Missouri have some of the highest rates of food stamp applications in the state. In normal times, the Missouri Bootheel has the highest rates of hunger in the state. “But when the pandemic hit, it made an already bad situation much worse,” said Lisa Church, chief advancement officer of the Southeast Missouri Food Bank. The organization’s pantries and mobile food distribution are seeing as many as three times more people coming for food assistance.
