Each year it says the number of allergy sufferers increases with half of those affected being children. The aim of Allergy Awareness Week is to raise awareness of the impact of allergies, as well as some of the things we can do to help. An allergy develops when the body’s immune system reacts to an allergen as though it is a threat, like an infection. It produces antibodies to fight off the allergen, in a reaction called the immune response.
