Top officials from the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are holding a press briefing condemning acts of violence which happened last week in Lilongwe.
Speaking at the briefing which is taking place in Mangochi alleged that the acts of violence which are happening in the party, are being sponsored by some candidates eyeing the partyâs presidency.
DPPâs spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira, Chimwemwe Chipungu and Francis Mphepo were attacked by the partyâs cadets allegedly to be Kondwani Nankhumwa sympathizers.
Among others, Central Region vice president Zelia Chakale, Region Governor for the South Charles Mchacha, Sheikh Mtenje (Governor for Eastern Region), all directors of youth and women for the party are among those attending the presser.

Democratic Progressive Party (DDP) regional committee for the south on Wednesday, January 27 condoled the family of late Muhammad Sidik Mia at Ngabu in Chikwawa.
Sidik Mia who until his death was serving as Transport and Public Works Minister and MCP 1st vice president passed on after succumbing to Covid 19.
In his eulogy DPP Governor for the South Charles Mchacha who was accompanied by Regional Secretary Hannah Chatheka, Organizing Secretary Rudo Chimbalanga and other senior officials described late Sidik Mia as a true Patriot who was putting interest of the country at first.

Leader of opposition and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice-president for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa on Thursday shunned the welcoming ceremony of former governor for the Reserve Bank of Malawi Dr. Dalitso Kabambe into the party.

The ceremony took place in Blantyre where DPP regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha led thousands of DPP members and supporters in welcoming Kabambe to the party.
Nankhumwa as vice president of the party in the region was supposed and expected to receive Kabambe on behalf of the party but he chose to shun the ceremony as he considers Kabambe a rival in the run up to the 2025 presidential race for the party.
DPP Regional Governor for the South Charles Mchacha has dismissed reports flying around that party leader Peter Mutharika has endorsed homeboy Dalitso Kabambe, former Reserve Bank Governor as the party’s candidate in 2025.
Speaking when welcoming Kabambe into the party, Mchacha says the party will hold a convention where everyone will be free to contest for the position of party president and the party’s torchbearer in the 2025 election.
In his acceptance speech Dr Kabambe thanked DPP supporters in the south for their support and loyalty towards the party. Kabambe came with his wife Bridget and his mother.
Dr Kabambe hails from Thyolo and was appointed Governor for the Reserve Bank of Malawi on 21 April 2017. He is married and has three children.
