The South Arkansas Arts Center is pleased to announce two upcoming art exhibits featuring local artists beginning January 4 and hanging through February 1. The exhibition "Working Collectively" will be showing in the Price Gallery and is a display of works created by members of the weekly Open Studio lead by artist Gay Bechtelheimer. Showing in the Lobby Gallery will be El Dorado local artist Spencer Purinton and his exhibition "Mental Gumbo." There will be an artist s reception on Saturday, January 6 from 5:30-7:00pm.
The South Arkansas Arts Center is hosting a reception on Saturday, January 6 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. welcoming Little Rock sculptor Michael Warrick and his exhibition "Memento-Mori" to the Merkle Gallery January 4, 2024 – January 30, 2024. Warrick uses aluminum, hydrocal, and porcelain as his medium in his exhibition that displays a narrative as well as abstracted portraits exploring themes of transformation, angst, meditation, mentorship, identity, death, and memory as the key to understanding who we are and aspire to be. Each portrait is a compilation of images that builds a unique execution through its subtle assemblage of narrative images, natural textures and found objects.
The deadline has passed to submit funding proposals to the El Dorado Advertising and Promotion Commission to help promote events and attractions that are scheduled for 2024.
The South Arkansas Arts Center in El Dorado has added a new category to the slate of awards for its upcoming annual photography competition, "The Viewfinder". For the first time, a special Sponsor s Purchase Award will be given to a photograph taken in Union County. The exhibit will be on display in the Merkle and Price Galleries February 5-March 3, 2024, and it is presented in partnership with the El Dorado Insider and The Diamond Agency. A total of $1200 in cash prizes will be awarded.
