Gabriel Faure Claude Debussy - Rene Fleming JeanYves Thibaudet Night Songs Faur Debussy Marx Strauss Rachmaninov +Album Reviews

Amazon.com s Best of 2001 Soprano Renée Fleming s mastery of a wide repertory extends to the more rarefied world of song on this disc. A French group opens the disc 11 songs by Fauré and Debussy that are often elusive, wedded to a style of intimacy not always comfortable for non-French opera singers. Fleming s not completely at home in them, often overinterpreting songs whose style is too fragile and understated for such an approach. Still, she offers many moments of rapturous singing, such as the way she floats the last word, mystérieuse, of Fauré s Après un rëve, tingeing it with eroticism. Mandolin appears in two versions, Fauré s gently swinging one balanced by Debussy s bouncier take. The Rachmaninoff set also fascinates, her sensuous voice bringing its own rewards. Best of all are the German lieder by Joseph Marx and Richard Strauss. This is closer to home for Fleming, and one senses an ease in her singing that digs behind the words to the meaning of the poems. 'It's a huge honour' – Irish violinist Patricia Treacy set to perform for Joe Biden before inauguration

The main piece she will be performing is The Proclamation composed by Patrick Cassidy. Patricia will be playing a 315-year-old Stradivarius violin, from Joe Bein and Company in Chicago, which is estimated to be worth $4m (€3.3m). She will also join Soprano Renée Fleming for On Eagle’s Wings Schubert’s Ave Maria and the Celtic Alleluia. “I have been told, this will be the only live music event on the day,” she added. Patricia from Blackrock, Co Louth, has played for the president-elect on a number of occasions, including when he visited his ancestral home in 2016. She was also asked to perform at some of the Biden rallies in Chicago and other cities.

Irish violinist 'honoured' to play for Joe Biden before inauguration

An Irish concert violinist has said she feels hugely honoured to be playing during a private Mass for US President-elect Joe Biden and his family before his inauguration tomorrow. There had been concerns that there would not be any live music at the Mass because of the riots at the Capitol earlier this month. The invitation for Patricia Treacy to play on inauguration day came directly to her from the Biden family last year. She said: I am going to be playing in the church with the family present. Over the weekend she practiced in Chicago for what she described as a once in a lifetime opportunity.
