WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The No. 45 Clemson women’s tennis team fell to No. 29 Wake Forest on the road on Friday by a score of 5-2. The Tigers fought valiantly to rage a comeback, but could not overcome the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest secured the doubles point and continued its momentum in singles, winning the first two singles points to take a commanding 3-0 lead. To take the match, the Tigers would need to win each of the remaining four singles matches. Sophia Hatton began the effort with a 6-4, 6-3 win on Court 6. The victory improved her impressive undefeated record to 9-0 on the season. Dani Medvedeva followed suit to bring the Tigers within one of the Demon Deacons by taking Court 5 by a score of 6-4 and 6-2. The loss snapped the team’s seven-match winning streak, as the Tigers had gotten off to their first 11-1 start since 1986. CLEMSON, S.C. The Clemson women's tennis team was ranked No. 29 in the nation by the latest ITA rankings. It is the highest ranking that the Tigers have earned since 2018. Clemson is off to a 10-1 start for the first time since 1986 after sweeping Coastal Carolina on Sunday at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. The Tigers also recently defeated rival South Carolina for the first time since 2015 by a score of 4-2. Cristina Mayorova has been exceptional for Clemson in the early going, starting her season 10-1 including a 3-0 record on Court 1. She is 8-2 in doubles play this spring.
