MALIBU, Calif. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday at the hands of No. 9 Pepperdine by a final score of 4-0. The Tigers will play the loser of this afternoon’s match between Memphis and Columbia tomorrow at 1 p.m. to close out their ITA Kickoff Weekend. Jenna Thompson and Samantha Buyckx put on a brilliant performance in doubles, winning Court 2 6-1, but it was not enough, as Pepperdine won the other two matches to clinch the doubles point. In singles play, Sophia Hatton won the first set on Court 5, but the match would not be played to its conclusion. The Waves were able to close out straight-set victories on Courts 1, 2 and 3 to clinch the match, 4-0. Clemson will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out its trip to Malibu against either Memphis or Columbia, pending Saturday afternoon’s result. CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Women’s Tennis team (4-0) continued its strong start to the season on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep over Presbyterian College and Wofford on Sunday at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. It marks the second consecutive doubleheader sweep for Clemson, and all four matches thus far were won by a score of 7-0. “I’m super proud of our team and where the girls are physically and mentally,” said Head Coach Amy Sargeant. “The girls have learned a lot this week and I commend their commitment to trusting the process and challenging themselves to get better.” The team was anchored by a powerful start in doubles, where they took two of three matches from the Blue Hose. The Tigers will take on the Blue Hose at 11 a.m. and the Terriers at 3 p.m.Clemson will face Presbyterian College for the 11th time in history, with the Tigers dominating the series 10-0 to this point. Clemson most recently defeated the Blue Hose last season by a score of 6-1. The Tigers and Terriers have met just twice, with Clemson winning both of the battles. CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (2-0) began its season on the right track on Saturday, as the Tigers swept its doubleheader against College of Charleston and UNCG without dropping a point, 7-0, 7-0. The wins marked the first of Head Coach Amy Sargeant’s tenure in her new role. “The first match of the season is always challenging,” began Sargeant. “But the girls stepped up and stuck to the objective for the day. I thought they all competed very well, played to their strengths and had fun while doing it.” Sophia Hatton was dominant in both of her singles matches on Saturday, defeating her College of Charleston opponent 6-0, 6-0 before taking care of her UNCG opponent 6-1, 6-0. Eleni Louka won each of her singles matches from Court 1, and Mayorova did the same on line 2. Alexandra Anttila showed character in her win on Court 5 against UNCG by coming back from down 5-1 to win the first set and ultimately earn the victory, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. The Tigers won
CLEMSON, S.C. Sophia Hatton, Eleni Louka and Dani Medvedeva will all compete at this weekend's UNF Invite in Jacksonville, Fla. Play starts on Saturday with two singles matches per player and one doubles match. Sunday will feature one singles match and two doubles matches. Saturday will kick off with the pairing of Medvedeva/Hatton taking on UNCC's Petruzelova/Wilkins at 9 a.m. Then, at 10 a.m., Louka will take on UNF's Kit Gulihur and Medvedeva will take on Sophia Biolay of UCF.
