Following a school threat originating from social media, schools around the country and in Texas took action, including Graham ISD. GISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse posted notice of the threat to district parents and guardians Friday, May 5. Multiple districts in Texas, including Bowie ISD and Huntsville ISD, stated that a post began circulating amongst students and community members regarding a potential threat of violence made toward an unnamed district campus. Cruse sent a notification Friday to inform all parties of the situation.
Graham ISD sent a ParentSquare notification yesterday to GISD parents advising that a kindergarten student at Pioneer Elementary was in possession of a handgun and showed it to a friend at school.
Graham Police Chief Brent Bullock said in a release that it was discovered that the six-year-old student found the gun under the seat of his parent s car. After placing it in his backpack, he showed a friend the gun before the start of class Wednesday.
The student who saw the gun notified a teacher and reported it as a toy gun. Graham Police School Resource Officer Corporal Blake Davis received the call at 7:30 a.m. According to the release, there was no evidence or reports of the student pointing the gun or threatening with it.
