Alok Kansal, General Manager of Western Railway undertook annual inspection of Pipavav-Bhavnagar section of Bhavnagar Division on 3rd March, 2021. During the annual inspection, Kansal closely inspected safety aspects such as railway point and crossings, major and minor bridges, electronic interlocking system, curves etc. of this section. Surat: A 69-year-old man hanged self to death after allegedly strangling his 65-year-old wife at his residence in Songadh town of Tapi district on Wednesday.
The deceased Arjun Hire left a suicide note stating that he was taking the extreme step as his wife Sushila used to insult him often. Police said that Hire’s son had died six months ago and since then the couple’s life had been stressful.
The incident came to life when residents of Pipli Faliyu did not notice any movement in Hire’s residence on Wednesday morning. They knocked on the door, but when nobody opened they checked from the window and found Hire hanging from the ceiling. The neighbours informed the police which broke open the door.

SURAT: The Gujarat government did not oppose the bail plea of 19 accused including former minister Kanti Gamit and his son booked under section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and Epidemic Disease Act, for organizing a mass gathering on November 30 at Dosavada village of Songadh taluka in Tapi district.
During the hearing of the bail plea of Gamit and others, special public prosecutor Nayan Sukhadwala submitted before the sessions judge that the investigating officer in the case had no objection to the bail pleas if the accused cooperated in the probe.
“In this case, considering the provision of the punishment against the accused, if accused remain present during the trial, do not violate the bail conditions and cooperate with police investigation, complainant (police itself) has no objections to the conditional bail to accused,” Sukhadwala had stated in the court. Based on this argument, the court granted bail to the 19 accused on Monday.
