When the 90s began, we started to see a lot of experimentation. And the simpsons i think in some senses was inspired by not necessarily hatred of television, but a distrust of a lot of the ways in which television was talking to us. Tv respects me. It laughs with me. Not at me. Youre stupid. Doh i think the sitcoms of the 80s were such a warm, safe, humor. I love you guys. The kids, they listen to the rap music which gives them the brain damage. And i think there was a real yearning for another type of humor. We were able to spoof fatherhood what a bad father. The years of the 60s which end in a few hours have a reputation that is not entirely justified. Some things got worse obviously but tv and other News Coverage is better, not worse, we simply required more demanding standards. When i think of tv i think of the 70s. What is this world coming to . The American Public was hungry for more. More was allowed that hasnt been before. It was the last decade where it was a campfire television, where there was one in the living room. I want to watch an all black show for a change. Where are you going to find one . Heres one. Los Angeles Lakers against the milwaukee bucks. Young people were interested in relevant things, so Television Began to reflect that. This is cbs. Really, it was very simple. You had three channels plus pbs. When the decade turned over into the 70s, television was very rural. The beverly hillbillies. Cbs had beverly hillbilly, green acres. Patty coat junction and these rural fantasies of mayberry. I dont drink anymore, i had to quit because i really drank. Man, i get pulled over by the cops, id be so drunk, dancing to their lights, thinking i made it to another club. Laughter is a bizarrely intimate thing, its an uncontrolled physical response, very similar buy logically to orgasm. Someone made you laugh even once, you have an affection for that person. Its all love, baby. A comedian is like your friend. Thats what the job of a comedian is to come on stage and in 60 seconds make friends with a room full of people. Actors, their genius is never quite telling us who they are. But comedians getting inside our heads is very personal. Theres an intimacy to comedy. So when theyre gone, you miss it. You ever have your girlfriend or your wife call you from another room and shes like, sweetie, and then immediately, you go, what does she want .
