Police rescue 12-year-old girl from solitary confinement in Sokoto

Share The Nigeria Police Force, Sokoto State Command has rescued a 12 years old girl who was said to have been caged for eight months by her guardians identified as Emmanuel Basey and his wife, Esther Emmanuel. The girl, Joy was also said to have been denied food throughout the period of her confinement at Sokoto cinema area in Sokoto North Local Government Area. Our correspondent gathered that the guardians took the action because “she is mentally unstable” which was later proved to be false by the police. Confirming the development to our correspondent in Sokoto, the spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said the girl was rescued on Thursday while the suspects were arrested and detained at the Dadin Kowa police station.

Diarrhea claims 4 lives in Sokoto, 56 hospitalised

By Habibu Harisu Sokoto, Jan. 27, 2021 The Commissioner for Health in Sokoto State, Dr Ali Inname, says four persons have died and 56 hospitalised as result of the outbreak of diarrhea, occasioned by water contamination in Sokoto, the state capital. Newsmen reports that the incident occurred at Helele in Sokoto North Local Government area of Sokoto metropolis. Inname told Newsmen, on Wednesday, attributed the incident to the drinking of contaminated water by people in the affected settlement, adding, however, that state government had contained the spread of the disease. He said that the survivors had been placed on treatment at Helele and Kofar Rini Primary Healthcare Centres as well as Sokoto Specialist Hospital.

Gastroenteritis: Sokoto health ministry embarks on active case search in communities

Share Sokoto State government through the ministry of health has commenced active case search in Helele and Kofar Kware communities and its environment to curtail the spread of gastroenteritis in the state. The disease which the Commissioner for Health, Dr Ali Inname, was reported to have killed four people while over twenty are hospitalized. According to a statement on the official Twitter handle of the state ministry of health, “there was a report of gastroenteritis outbreak in some part of Sokoto North Local Government area yesterday night which affected many people living around Helele and Kofar Kware areas respectively. “A gastroenteritis outbreak occurs when two or more people have a sudden onset of vomiting or diarrhoea at the same time in the same community. Gastroenteritis is highly infectious and its outbreak is very common and can be difficult to control.
