weather center. it s been a tough winter. and not even half over yet. nine inches on the ground in new york city. we re still kind of tracking and measuring the snow because even though it stopped in new york, it is still snowing and snowing hard in boston. we re seeing a lot of it working its way up towards northern new england including maine, the coast land just getting hit hard. the store has intensified and we like to say it bombed out that means that we saw a rapid drop in pressure, the winds intensified and all of this means we ll see snowfall rates of two inches per hour at times with this powerful system and the winds are fierce coming in up to 35 miles an hour, gusts will be even more intense than that. so what does this mean in terms of final accumulations? even though nine inches in new york city, it will be a whole lot more in new england. a foot or possibly two feet of snow particularly in western mass as we head towards worcester and notice the winter storm warnings

this is a small storm. it is going to be quick hitting and a 12-hour event. that s it. it s intense for a short period of time. so the plows will have a very difficult time regardless of where you are keeping up with the snowfall rates. currently, light snow from chicago to st. louis. there s two storms, one coming across the ohio valley, the other one is forming off the east coast. they re going to merge off the coast of jersey and form this big monster nor easter later on tonight. light snow this morning south of d.c. and richmond, the storms will combine. the bulls eye for this storm system definitely southern new england. really from i-95 from new york up into boston. that s where we could see one to two feet. let me give you more specifics on the expected snowfall totals. you know in the boston area, 12 to 18. new york, 8 to 12 or so. you know, it s not the blizzard. it s not 20 inches, willie. but for southern new england, every snowstorm is different. this one is hitting so fast
