Effective immediate allocation, and streamlined delivery to recipient States, Union Territories and institutions is an ongoing exercise, it said Nineteen oxygen generation plants, 11,321 oxygen concentrators, 15,801 oxygen cylinders and about 5.5 lakh Remdesivir vials received as global aid have been delivered or dispatched to various states and union territories from April 27 to May 16, the Centre said on Monday.
The government has been receiving international cooperation for COVID-19 relief medical supplies and equipment since April 27 from different countries and organisations.
Through a streamlined and systematic mechanism, various ministries and departments have seamlessly collaborated under the ‘whole of government’ approach for expeditiously delivering incoming global aid to states and union territories, the Union health ministry said.

The first batch of the adjunct COVID therapy drug, 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) along with Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL), Hyderabad was on Monday released for emergency use. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh formally handed over the drug to Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.
“One box each of the sachets of the drug were handed over to Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Lt. Gen. Sunil Kant of Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). More will be handed over to different hospitals across the country for emergency use,” a Defence M

Bihar recorded the highest number of doctors 69 who died due to COVID-19 in the second wave so far followed by Uttar Pradesh (34) and Delhi (27). According to the Indian Medical Association (IMA) registry, 244 deaths have been recorded in the second wave with the youngest physician who died being Dr. Anas Mijahid, 25, from Delhi and the oldest being Dr. Anil Kumar Rakshit, 87, Kolkata.

The move comes as U.S. states are seeing drops in vaccination numbers and countries like India are scrambling to get vaccines.
President Joe Biden said Monday that the United States is surging exports of Covid vaccines to other countries to reclaim “American leadership” in the global fight against the pandemic, dismissing rival efforts by China and Russia.
Mr. Biden confirmed that 20 million more doses of Covid vaccines are being released over the next six weeks, bringing the total earmarked for shipping out by the end of June to 80 million.
The boost follows pressure on the Biden administration from other governments to use its large vaccine surplus to help struggling countries, now that significant progress has been made in rolling out vaccinations at home.
