UK – WORLDWIDE – TR Lady Shipping Ltd, a portfolio company of Tufton Investment Management, has signed an agreement with specialist in wind assisted propulsion for commercial vessels, Anemoi Marine Technologies, to supply and fit the bulk carrier
TR Lady with three large Rotor Sails and Anemoi s patented Rail Deployment System.
The Rail Deployment System allows the Rotor Sails to be moved across the deck to minimise impact on port operations.
TR Lady is a CS Marine designed 82,000dwt Kamsarmax bulker, built in 2017 by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, and managed by Tufton. This is yet another case of the Flettner technology receiving acceptance from a shipping group.

Signal Maritime Launches MR Tanker Pool

Commercial ship manager Signal Maritime announced it is launching a new pool for MR product tankers building upon the success of its Aframax pool launched in 2018.
“The clean tanker market has always been a highly competitive environment with the presence of many experienced owners and pools. We believe that our new MR pool is good for a market that may see more players combining efforts to achieve benefits of scale, optimize their commercial management and address the demanding environmental requirements ahead, said Signal Maritime CEO Panos Dimitracopoulos.

Low oil, Covid create volatile year for shipping: report
DUBAI, December 30, 2020 The coronavirus pandemic caused a major disruption across the global economy with the collapse in oil demand and new lockdowns leading to an immensely volatile year for the shipping market, a report said. The market analysis by the Signal Group, a diversified shipping services group, based on The Signal Ocean Platform using Signal Maritime’s data takes a look selectively at a range of vessel segments and regions covering crude tankers, product tankers as well as dry vessels. Dirty Tankers – VLCCs In the dirty tankers segment, TCE rates for VLCCs fluctuated from highs to lows within a few months. So What Did 2020 Mean for Shipping and the Tanker Markets?
WORLDWIDE – It would appear that, having been blamed for the original outbreak of Covid-19, China is now widely considered as responsible for at least moderating the detrimental effects of the pandemic on the tanker shipping sector.
2020 has been of course a disaster for many in the logistics sector and beyond, however the latest study by industry analysts such as OilX show the import of crude oil and the like actually rose by 8.5% during the year, the only country to have seen an increased demand. This support for the industry helped mitigate the damage caused to producers and carriers alike.
