that s not a movie. it looks like something out of it. so-called side shows overtaking the streets of oakland in the bay area. drivers pulling off dangerous stunts and causing chaos that terrorizes neighborhoods. we have a councilman here. have you seen one of these yourself? good morning, dana. it is great to be alive and living in oakland, california. i grew up here in the city of oakland and serving here for many years. the problem with side shows has grown dramatically where we live in challenged neighborhoods to begin with where we are investing millions and millions of dollars to improve our crosswalks, our lighting, streets, just to allow our children and families to go to school, to do their shopping and
yeah. in the middle of the night. this happens when you don t enforce the law. criminals take control. in oakland, groups of people shut down intersections to do what they call side shows. [tires squealing] [engines revving] [shouting] jesse: huge crowds come out to watch these guys rip donuts at high speeds and smash up cars, look at that and sometimes they get mowed down. [sirens] whoa! jesse: remember alvin bragg, the d.a. here who arrested trump over a business ledger, he finally admitted crime is a problem. i know the statistics that crime is down one move my family
that was wrecked, and the other car t-boned it and dragged it. you have to go back to around 2000 when the idea on the table for combating side shows was let s throw a bunch of police at this thing. during that time people were putting a lot of money into their cars. painting them and putting rims and modifying them. then the police were told they could take your car for 30 days. you started to see the behaviors of people change around that time. lawrence: there are a lot of people who oppose what s happening there. what would you say to those folks? nobody should be accepting that kind of activity in a residential neighborhood. in the middle of the night waking up by people doing
