A local court in Mumbai on Saturday sent two people accused of killing their 19-year-old friend at a New Year s party to police custody till January 7.

MUMBAI: In the first murder registered in the city on the first day of 2021, a 19-year-old girl was found brutally beaten to death allegedly by her boyfriend and another teenager on the ground floor of a Khar (West) highrise early on Friday. The trio were at a 10th floor terrace party at Bhagwati Heights organised by some youngsters who reside there. Prima facie, police suspect a love triangle gone wrong.
Jhanvi Kukreja, the victim, had been invited to the party along with the two suspects -Shree Jogdhankar (22) and Diya Padankar (19). The two have been detained, but no arrest had been made till late on Friday night. Police were in the process of questioning the 12 others who were at the party.

Mumbai: A 19-year-old girl was brutally murdered by two friends during a party on New Year s Eve in Khar on Thursday. The police said, the incident occurred around 2.30 am, when the teenager allegedly spotted the duo in a compromising position. Angered at being discovered, they reportedly beat her up, grabbed her by the hair and dragged her down from the terrace through the stairs to the second floor, killing her in the process. Khar Police have booked two people a man and a woman and are interrogating them along with the other attendees at the party.

Traumatised by the death of her daughter, Jhanavi Kukreja, a 19-year-old student who was allegedly killed by two friends at a New Yearâs Eve party in Khar, her mother on Saturday said she was unable to come to terms with the alleged involvement of her daughterâs childhood friend. Jhanavi and Diya Padalkar (19) were best friends. We have been neighbours for 13 years. I am unable to come to terms with Diya s involvement,â said Niddhi Kukreja, Jhanavi s mother. âThis has happened to us, and tomorrow this could happen to anyone. All we want is justice,â she added.
